1. Introduction

Welcome to CapHash ("we", "us", "our"). We operate the website at caphash.io (the "Service"), a free Instagram caption and hashtag generator.

We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit CapHash, how we use it, and what rights you have. By using our Service, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information We Collect

CapHash does not require an account, email address, or any personal information to use the tool.

Information you provide

Any keywords or descriptions you type into the generator are processed entirely in your browser. We do not transmit this text to our servers.

Automatically collected information

Like most websites, our hosting provider may collect standard server logs including your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. This data is used for security and performance monitoring and is not linked to any personal identity.

Advertising data

We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google may collect data about your visit for the purpose of serving relevant advertisements. Please see Section 6 for more detail.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and improve the CapHash service
  • To monitor site performance, security, and uptime
  • To display relevant advertisements via Google AdSense
  • To respond to contact form enquiries you submit voluntarily

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Local Storage

CapHash uses your browser's localStorage — not cookies — to store your preferences and saved captions directly on your device. This data never leaves your browser and is not accessible to us.

What we store in localStorage:

  • ch_saved — your saved/favourited captions
  • ch_dark — your dark mode preference (0 or 1)

You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data or using the "Clear all" button in the Saved Captions panel.

6. Third-Party Services

CapHash uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy.

📢

Google AdSense

Serves advertising on CapHash. May collect browsing data for ad personalisation. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

🔤

Google Fonts

Loads web fonts (Bricolage Grotesque, DM Sans). May log your IP address when fetching fonts. No advertising cookies are set.

🎨

Tailwind CSS CDN

Loads our CSS framework from a CDN. Standard request logging may occur. No advertising cookies are set.

7. GDPR – Your Rights

Applies to users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom

If you are located in the EEA or UK, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or UK GDPR gives you the following rights in relation to your personal data:

Right of Access

You have the right to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.

Right to Rectification

You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal data we hold.

Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten")

You may request deletion of your personal data where there is no legitimate reason for us to continue processing it.

Right to Restrict Processing

You may ask us to halt processing of your data in certain circumstances.

Right to Data Portability

You may request your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.

Right to Object

You have the right to object to processing of your personal data for direct marketing or based on legitimate interests.

A note on our data practices

Because CapHash does not collect personal data beyond server logs and optional contact form submissions, exercising most of these rights will result in a confirmation that we hold no personal data about you. Contact form data (if submitted) is retained for correspondence purposes and deleted upon request.

Lawful basis for processing: Where we do process personal data (e.g., contact form submissions), the lawful basis is your explicit consent provided at the time of submission. Server logs are processed under our legitimate interest in maintaining site security.

To exercise any of your rights, please contact us via the Contact page. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK: the ICO at ico.org.uk).

8. Children's Privacy

CapHash is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of CapHash after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

10. Contact

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, wish to exercise your rights, or want to make a complaint, please contact us via our Contact page.
